A suspected unexploded bomb on the shores of the Thames in Wapping, east London, turned out to be an oversized glittery Christmas bauble.

Tower Hamlets Police posted a photo on Twitter of the object, which officers were called to investigate.

"Luckily, upon closer inspection, it is a giant glittery Christmas bauble!" reads the tweet.

Neighbouring police team Hackney Police came out all puns blazing. "That is a Wapping great bauble!" they tweeted. I see what you did there.

Puns aside, though, the good people of Twitter had some thoughts.

I think we can all breathe an enormous sigh of relief now.
