Australian horror flick The Babadookis a suspenseful and generally awesome film, but dressing up as the scary character from which the movie takes its name is no mean feat -- particularly if everyone else at the party doesn't dress up.

Now a new group of Babadooks has seen one fan's viral effort and raised her a brand new meme.

Back in July, comedian Katie Dippold tweeted a #TBT to a particularly hilarious Halloween fail. Her commitment to a Babadook costume was essentially wasted, when she discovered the party she was attending had "more of a grown ups drinking wine vibe."

The picture was retweeted tens of thousands of times, because it's the best.

In solidarity with Dippold's effort, a quartet recreated and inverted the original post, complete with a caption Dippold-honouring caption.

David Sanchez and his friends had been planning the idea for several weeks.

"I met up with a group of friends for happy hour after work about a month ago. We discussed what we wanted to be for Halloween, and someone mentioned the Babadook as an idea," he wrote to Mashable.

"Then we were reminded of the original Babadook tweet, which we all thought was hilarious.  And then someone made a joke about doing the inverse version of that tweet, we thought that was even more hilarious, and we went with that idea ultimately."

The crew went to a bar and a friend's party in Chicago, rocking their group costume all night.

"People loved Dippold's original tweet because we've all been there," Sanchez told Mashable. "We've all had an awkward experience where we thought we were going to be a really cool Babadook and everyone would be on board and then it turned out, nope, not the case, we're the cheese that stands alone."

You know what they say. If it's in a word, or it's in a look, you can't get rid of the Babadook.
